“Lead Us Not Into Temptation”

Matthew 26:33-41

This Sunday, we complete the sermon series, The Jesus Prayer, with a focus on the phrase, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”  Does God really “lead us into temptation”?  And how does He “deliver us from evil”?

Sermon Notes
The Jesus Prayer – Forgive Us Our Debts as We Forgive the Debts of Others – 091612 9.16.12 The Jesus Prayer

“Forgive Us Our Debts”

Matthew  6:12

Guilt tortures many of us.  Embarrassing words, shameful actions, sinful thoughts rob us of inner peace and a joyful life.  But Jesus has given us a way to deal with guilt.  He has offered us a way to experience freedom from regret and hope for every moment of life. How?   Find out as we complete The Jesus Prayer.

Sermon Notes
The Jesus Prayer – Give us this day, our daily bread 9.9.12 The Jesus Prayer

“Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread”

Do you ever find yourself freaking out over stuff? Our jobs, our kids, our friends, our time – there’s plenty to freak out about. I know I worry more than I like to admit.  This Sunday we’re going to look at The Jesus Prayer to see how prayer can alter how we live and how much or how little we worry.

Sermon Notes
The Jesus Prayer-Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done 9.2.12 The Jesus Prayer

“Thy Kingdom Come; Thy Will Be Done”

Luke 4:18-19″Thy kingdom come; thy will be done…..”  It’s obvious that our world isn’t  God’s kingdom.  But when we pray as Jesus taught, he makes it possible to experience the beginnings of the kingdom  in our world and in our lives right now.”

Sermon Notes
The Jesus Prayer-Hallowed Be Thy Name 8.26.12 The Jesus Prayer

Sermon Notes
The Jesus Prayer 8.12.12 THE JESUS PRAYER

Luke 11:1-10

While many approach it as a ritual, a way to reduce stress, or as a way to receive guidance, Jesus teaches that prayer is a tool for shaping the future.  It is a way to bring to pass the life, the family, the church, the community, the world that God has planned

Sermon Series: Going for the Gold

Going For The Gold Part 5 – Matthew 8.5.12 1 John 4:7-12

Rediscover how much God loves you. Through the life of the Apostle John, experience God’s pleasure, his forgiveness and grace; and you will never be the same again.

Sermon Notes
Going For The Gold Part 4 – John 7.29.12 Matthew 9:9-13 and Luke 5:27-32

Some people seem to live extraordinary lives; they demonstrate faith, joy, peace, love and forgiveness even in difficult times.  How do they do it?  Check out the life of Matthew and discover  how a deep relationship with Jesus is the key to an extraordinary life of faith.

Sermon Notes
Going For The Gold Part 3 – Paul 7.22.12

Acts 9:11-22

Did you know the people in the Bible can inspire us in our lives as well?   This week, we will look at the life of Paul.  Do you need a change at work, in your attitude, with your relationships,  power over an addition?  Paul’s  experience  will inspire you to make the changes you need — to grab hold of the purposes that God has for you.  Become a “gold-medal person of faith.”  Discover how Paul’s story is just for you!

Sermon Notes
Going For The Gold Part 2 – Barnabas – Son of Encouragement 7.15.12

Acts ch. 4, 9, 11, 15 and Galatians 2

As people around the world anticipate the Olympic games in London in a couple of weeks, the athletes are surely immersed in their training, hoping to earn a gold medal to honor their country. Around here we’re focusing more on our spiritual training, seeking to be gold medal winners in the life of faith and looking to a few examples in the New Testament. This Sunday we’ll be learning from Barnabas. What made him a gold medal winner in his faith?

Sermon Notes
Going For The Gold Part 1 – Mary Magdalene A Disciple Who Knew Her Name 7.8.12

Luke 8:1-3; John 20:1-2, 11-18

With the Summer Olympics in London coming later this month, people around the world are getting excited about cheering on their countries. That’s got us thinking around here about our own strict training that Paul talks about in I Corinthians 9:25: “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” What does it take to be a gold medal winner in the life of faith? Over coming weeks we will be looking at four people from the New Testament to discover what it was about their lives that made them gold medal winners in the life of faith.

A Dad’s Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-8, 13-14.1

Why is it that sometimes no matter how hard they try, dads can’t seem to get children to understand how much they really love them?  Why does there seem to be a disconnect sometimes with a dad’s love and family life? Join us for worship this Sunday as we talk about different “love languages” and how dads can better communicate the love they have to special people in their lives.

6.3.12

“Blessed Words, Attitudes and Actions”

Philippians 2:1-11

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”. Whoever said that was an idiot.  Words are an incredibly powerful force to build up or to tear down — especially words  spoken in our families.  The same  is true with attitudes.  A grudging spirit or an entitled attitude can tear a family apart, while a generous spirit and a positive attitude can bring healing.

Aggravating Your Family & Other Favorite Pastimes (How to Bring A Positive Attitude to Family Life) – God’s Plan for Families 5.27.12

Unfortunately, it is true that often we’d rather aggravate our families than appreciate them.  We forget how powerful  our negative words and actions can impact the lives of the people we are invited to love the most — our families.

So what can we do?  One thing is to take time to reconsider what God wants every family to be.  This Sunday we will take a new look at God’s purpose for your family’s life.

Judges 6-7; Luke 16:10a

Sometimes God whispers words of comfort to help us. At other times God whispers words that challenge us, inviting us to go deeper in our faith, to meet unmet needs, to step out in trust and find new ways of serving him. These second- level whispers are not easy to follow. But the Good News is that God will help us respond to him. He will help us follow even the most challenging whispers of God and to live life wide open to him.

The Power of a Whisper Pt 2 October 23, 2011 Day to Day Guidance

2 Timothy 3:16-17

God is whispering to his people today: words of assurance, comfort, guidance and admonition. But will we hear? How do you increase the odds of hearing from God? How do you create the spiritual environment in your life where you trust God’s whispers enough to respond to them?

Power of A Whisper Pt 1 October 16, 2011 Hearing From God

1 Samuel 3:1-10; Psalm 46:10

There is nothing like the experience of hearing directly from God – sensing his guidance to move toward some situations and to avoid others, to speak a word one moment and to fall silent the next, to adopt bold new practices and to ditch self-destructive habits that do us harm. God still speaks relevant words to his followers today. A grand adventure awaits each of us who are ready to tune our ear toward Him.

FIRST, Pt 4 November 7th, 2010 First in our Finances

Wherever we put our money demonstrates what is truly important to us. Do you want to know how I value my children? Look at how I spend my money on them — or not. Do you want to know how I value education? Look at how much money I spend on it? Do you want to know how I value God’s work in the world? Look at my giving? God desires to be FIRST priority with us in all things — including the wallet. And when we make God FIRST priority there are blessings and joys.

FIRST, Pt 3 October 31st, 2010 First in our Time, Talents and Energy

God has blessed us “first” through the love of Jesus Christ and we are called to put Him “first” in everything– for instance, in our use of time and talents. We are called to serve. But honestly, taking the time to serve others is really hard to do. We have so many demands of our own and we are so busy. How can we put God “first”?

FIRST, Pt 2 October 24th, 2010 First in Our Relationships

God in Film, Pt. 3 July 25, 2010 The Twilight Saga, Eclispe: The Thruth About Love

1 John 3:16 CEV

This dark, romantic fantasy has been viewed by millions this summer — and is one of the most popular movies out there. It speaks to a hunger that all of us feel: the desire to find and experience love at its best. But with vampires and werewolves at the setting for the story??? Of course, the reality for us as followers of Jesus is that movies are not our source of truth about love. Our source is God’s actions toward us in Jesus Christ as described in the Bible. We will be looking at scripture’s guidance about true love ….and we will see how the movie Eclipse stands up to it.

God in Film, Pt. 2 July 18, 2010 Karate Kid 2010

1 Samuel 16:7

One of our deepest desires in life is to be respected by others– but sometimes respect is hard to come by. What is it that brings respect? Strength? Power? Violence? No, the Bible says that one’s character is the key to gaining respect in life. We continue our summer series, GOD IN FILM, by looking at the movie, “The Karate Kid.” It is a movie that raises the question of the kind of character that gains respect. Join us as consider this movie and as we study the Bible together to learn “Character Lessons for Life.”

Luke 16:10, Matthew 6:21

A recent Pew Foundation study showed that 70% of Americans today say that they have experienced job or financial-related stress in their lives just this year. That means, that almost 3 out of 4 of us are worried or anxious about money and finances much of the time. But God doesn’t want us to live life with stress like that. Jesus says, “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly” ( John 10.10). Modern Church Family, Pt 4. May 30, 2010 Friendships That Change The World

John 13:34-35

If we Christians could get along, it would change the world. People would stop in amazement, wondering what power there is that can replace conflict and division with grace and love. Truth is, being a community of grace and love IS what God has called the church to do. In the church, we are to have such friendships with one another that the whole world takes notice. How do we do that? How can we have godly friendship that changes the world? Listen and find out.

Modern Church Family, Pt 3. May 23, 2010 Developing God’s Family Likeness

Romans 8:29 MSG

Have you ever noticed? Children grow up to look like parents. As they age, spouses may begin to look like one another. Even pets begin to look like their owners: they take on a family likeness. In the Church Family, as we grow spiritually, we come to look like someone, too. Through the working of the Holy Spirit we grow to “look like” Jesus — that is we take on his values, his attitudes, his character and caring. How does this happen? What can we do to have more of God’s family likeness?

Modern Church Family, Pt 2. May 16, 2010 Identify With God’s Family

Acts 2:36-38

Over the centuries, there have been a lot of sermons preached about Jesus Christ — in fact, millions of sermons since the day Jesus rose from the dead. But when Peter preached the very first sermon about Jesus, the Bible tells us that 3000 people responded in faith– 3000 people committed their lives to Jesus and to God’s new family, the church. Why did so many people make such a commitment? And why is it that people today still believe it is worth everything to change their lives and be baptized in Jesus’ name? Listen and find out as we talk about “identifying” our lives with Him.

Modern Church Family, Pt 1. May 9, 2010 Why You Need a Spiritual Church Family

{Scripture Verse Here}

It is obvious that the church has changed. Fifty years ago, church congregations looked very different than they do today. The people looked different, the style of worship looked different, even the church buildings looked different. But the message has always been and is still the same. The message is of God’s love for people through Jesus Christ and that anyone who comes to Christ will have a life of joy, hope and meaning through him. Maybe you’ve never joined the church; maybe you’ve been put off by sins of the church: judgment, unkindness, uncaring. But the Bible calls the church “the bride of Christ,” and God has given the church a crucial role in his purpose and plan.

If doubts are used as a tool to challenge you to find and seek answers to the questions you have, they can become like immunizations for your faith making you stronger than you were before.

Most of the great people of the Bible actually felt very inadequate to do what God called them to do.Yet, by God’s power — and with God’s help — they did do amazing things: they changed the world. So can we!
